Practice leaders are an integral part of the functioning of CIMC. Practice leaders who have an active interest in serving the center and a willingness and ability to be the responsible person in the building when the office is closed. They are the community members who are responsible for opening the front door before the sitting begins and preparing the hall for the sitting, ringing the bell at the end of the sitting and closing the building.
Skills, experience, and qualities
- Three years Vipassana practice at CIMC
- Some intensive retreat experience
- A daily sitting practice
- Membership at CIMC
- ***Affinity Group Practice Leaders must meet the requirements of the particular affinity group (for example must be 35 years or younger to be a Greeter for the 35 and Under Sangha)
Responsibilities
- Arrive 15 minutes before start of the program to unlock doors and set up the hall
- Welcome people and explain details of using the Center
- Answer questions as needed
- Collect money and make change
Time commitment
- 15 minutes before and after the length of the program
- Daily sittings are scheduled at CIMC for weekday evenings and on Sunday afternoons.
- Practice leaders meet approximately two times a year for discussion and sitting practice.
Application & Training
- If you would like to serve as a Practice Leader fill out the PL Information Sheet and Application and email to office@cambridgeinsight.org for review by the Teachers.
- Once approved, Practice Leaders will shadow the current Practice Leader.
