As practice unfolds, our understanding of the Four Noble Truths becomes increasingly lived, embodied, and immediate. Our insight and understanding become visceral and intuitive, not based on intellect. Over these weeks we will share in our understanding of these Noble Truths as embodied wisdom. We will learn from each other about how this wisdom and the freedom that flows from it manifests in our lives. At the same time, we will observe and investigate the places where these truths have not penetrated - where they are not yet visceral, lived, and embodied. Through such honest inquiry and self-reckoning we continue to grow and deepen in the practice, no matter how long we have been practicing or what we think we understand. I look forward to exploring this territory with you.
Will Kabat-Zinn spent his early practice years at the Insight Meditation Society with Larry Rosenberg, Sharon Salzberg, and Joseph Goldstein and at Panditarama Forest Meditation Center in Burma under the guidance of Sayadaw U Pandita. Will was deeply influenced by his friendship with Dr. Rina Sircar who carried the lineage of Mingon Sayadaw through her teacher Taungpulu Sayadaw, and by the fierce compassion of Chan Master Sheng Yen who he met and practiced with in New York. He lives in the East Bay with his wife and two sons.
