Equanimity, Upekkha, is a quality that, when developed, allows us to meet every experience with greater strength, softness, and steadiness of heart and mind. Equanimity allows us to have a spacious presence with all the changing and challenging experiences that make up our lives and the world. In the face of election uncertainty, systemic racism, LGBTQIA+ phobia, climate disruption and more, cultivating equanimity increases our resilience, helping us to be available to ourselves and others with greater balance and stability.
Equanimity plays a vital role in spiritual development and is one of the greatest joys of practice. Its importance is considered in a number of places in the Pali Cannon. Over the course of our weeks together we will investigate equanimity as:
- One of the Brahma Viharas
- One of the Seven Factors of Awakening
- One of the pāramīs
- A support for the development of concentration
This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators and will include formal meditation practices, as well as discussion and reflection. We will explore how to practice equanimity within ourselves and our unfolding world. Everyone is welcome.
Full and partial scholarships are available up to 72 hours before the start of the program. This program will not be recorded.
Note: The class will not meet on November 28th.
