CIMC’s volunteer community is integral to the life of our Center. Volunteering is a beautiful form of dana (generosity). Generosity is the first of the ten qualities of heart that the Buddha encouraged us to cultivate on the path to awakening. Generosity frees us from feelings of separateness and alienation, and supports the development of lovingkindness and compassion. Volunteering at CIMC is a way to deepen one’s connection to this sangha (community).
Our volunteers, through their gifts of time and energy, provide vital support that allows CIMC to honor several core commitments:
- to offer the Buddha’s teachings to all,
- to dissolve financial barriers to our Dharma programs, and
- to keep the costs of programs and running the Center as low as possible.
We invite all who participate at CIMC to consider volunteering in some way as part of their practice. Bringing open-hearted awareness and mindful presence to whatever service is offered can be a way of integrating and deepening the teachings in one’s life. In turn, we work to ensure that volunteers are appreciated, supported and engaged in ways that are meaningful.
