Managers play an invaluable role in creating a supportive and harmonious atmosphere for practice by welcoming people to the center at check in, answering basic questions, making sure meal preparation and yogi jobs run smoothly and being available to handle unexpected situations so the teachers can concentrate on teaching.
Skills, Experience and Qualities
- Has a regular meditation practice: Has been practicing Vipassana at CIMC for at least 3 years and has attended at least 4 retreats at CIMC over the last 2 years
- Friendly and enjoys helping others, while also having the ability to step back and be unobtrusive when needed
- Clear communicator with teachers, fellow meditators and CIMC staff
- Able to anticipate, recognize and solve logistical challenges in an organized and thoughtful way
- Comfortable with low-level tech such sound systems or joining Zoom meetings
Responsibilities
- Arrive 1 hour before start of the program to unlock doors, set up, unlock door and welcome yogis
- Give the Manager talk at the beginning of retreats
- Set up and manage lunch, assist yogis with completing yogi jobs
- Collaborate and support other retreat manager and teacher throughout the day
- Staying 1 hour after end of retreat to clean up and debrief with other retreat manager and teacher(s)
Time Commitment
- Ideally: One-year minimum, 3-5 retreats, workshops per year but this is flexible
- 5-8 hours each time, more for full weekend retreats. Weekend Days, occasional Friday evenings.

- If you would like to serve as a Retreat Manager fill out the RM Information Sheet and Application and email to office@cambridgeinsight.org for review by the Teachers.
- Once approved, Retreat Managers will shadow experienced Retreat Managers for 1-2 Retreats.
