This program will be hosted both in-person and online (hybrid). This is the registration page to join Narayan Helen Liebenson in person at our Center in Cambridge. (Register here if you prefer to attend online.)
In-person space is limited. Please register only if you can attend the full weekend program. Registration will close at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 11th. One-day and walk-in registrations are not available. Vegetarian lunch will be provided on both days.
The teachings of the Buddha offer a transformative way to approach everything in our lives. We practice this approach in the formal practices of sitting and walking sessions and we also bring this teaching to everything that occurs throughout a day. This means that continuing the practice when we get up from our cushions is as important as when we are sitting on our cushions or chairs in formal meditative postures.
To meditate means to change the focus of our attention from what is happening to how we are relating to what it is that is happening. We shift out of an over focus on objects, conditions, situations, and circumstances to an awareness of grasping, rejecting, and ignoring. Learning how to make this shift will be the theme of this weekend retreat.
Compassion and Wisdom are said to be the two wings of the bird; we need both to be able to keep our balance and to freely, and gracefully, learn to find our way amidst beautiful and easeful conditions as well as when challenged by boring, irritating, and painful conditions. Compassion is indicated in the midst of the painful and wisdom is indicated always. We will learn and practice ways of responding with Compassion in the face of the painful and with wisdom whatever the conditions might be.
Throughout our days together, we will form a spiritual community that will allow us to delve more deeply into the timeless teachings of the Buddha. Our time together will include sitting meditation with instructions, talks, and time for discussion and questions.
This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators. Everyone is welcome.
Full and partial scholarships are available. Please submit your requests to office@cambridgeinsight.org at least 72 hours prior to the start of the program.
NOTE: At check-in, participants will be asked to volunteer for a short period of mindful service during the retreat—a "yogi job." Yogi jobs enable the smooth running of the retreat and offer an opportunity to practice alongside other retreat participants.
