A magnanimous heart is a heart of balance and buoyancy, of generosity and inclusivity. It allows us to approach each moment exactly as it is, free from agendas and expectations and receptive to all that arises. A magnanimous heart has the capacity to hold anything and everything, transforming even vulnerability and grief into workable assets.
This class for experienced practitioners will be a deep exploration into what it means to live with a heart and mind that is spacious and vast, even in the midst of loss and change which are inevitable in all of our lives. Is it possible to relate differently than our conditioning dictates? Is it possible to bring all our experiences into our dharma practice, whatever they may be? Engaging the teachings and practices of the Buddha, we will find ways to turn the sting and anguish of loss into a direct experience of enoughness – the deep joy, peace, and happiness within our own hearts that exist beyond mere circumstances.
Together, we will explore Part 1 of Narayan’s book, “The Magnanimous Heart”: The Constant Squeeze, The Five Recollections, and The Magnanimous Heart. These three chapters focus specifically on loss and reactions/responses to loss, opening up different perspectives and more allowing views.
Sessions will include sitting and walking meditation, talks, discussion, Q&A, and small group/dyad practice. Meditative homework will be assigned each week and discussed as a vital aspect of each session.
Class will not meet on October 29th or November 5th.
