The pāramī or the "Ten Perfections of the Heart" hold an important place in the Buddhist teachings. These ten qualities of an awakened mind encourage us to live our daily lives in skillful, wise and compassionate ways. The ten pāramī include: generosity, virtue or morality, renunciation, discernment or wisdom, energy, patience, truthfulness, resolve, loving kindness and equanimity. We can practice and develop these qualities in our daily lives: at work, at home, at school, or even driving our cars or riding our bicycles. Pāramī practice offers alternative ways to orient and direct the heart and mind in the stream of daily activities. Thus we are cultivating inner clarity and freedom.
This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators. Each session will include meditation practice, teachings and the exploration and discussion of how to apply the weekly pāramī in both formal meditation and daily life. Mindful homework between sessions is essential to this group.
Ajahn Sucitto's book, Pāramī : Ways to Cross Life's Floods, will be our shared text. Click here to download through the Forest Sangha Publications website.
Class will not meet on Thursday, November 23rd.
Note: This Practice Group will explore the first five pāramī: generosity, virtue or morality, renunciation, discernment or wisdom and energy. Ten Perfections of the Heart (Pāramī), Part 2 will be offered in January 2018, and will explore the rest of the pāramī: patience, truthfulness, resolve, loving kindness and equanimity. Part 1 is not a pre-requisite for taking Part 2.
