Taking refuge is an inner journey. When we “take refuge” we turn, or return, to a place of sanctuary, a place that is safe, a place we can rely on.
In this tradition, we may find safety and inspiration by taking refuge in the Triple Gem: the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. Taking refuge in the Buddha, we commit ourselves to our own capacity for awakening. Taking refuge in the Dharma, we walk the path of awakening in our life, resolving to live in accordance with what is true. Taking refuge in the Sangha, we acknowledge the community of people moving in the direction of awakening and we recognize our interconnectedness.
In this practice group, we will explore and practice with each of the three refuges. The more fully we open to and inhabit each, the more we trust our own heart and awareness. When make an inner commitment to an open heart, a clear mind and a life of wakefulness, our engagement with life becomes infused with kindness, compassion and wisdom. By taking refuge in the Triple Gem we learn to trust the unfolding of our lives.
This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators of all ages and all levels of experience. Each session will include formal meditation practices, teachings, time for discussion, reflections and questions. Homework between sessions is essential to this group. Everyone is welcome.
