The Buddha's teachings rest on three pillars: sīla (ethical living), samadhi (mental stability or concentration), and paññā (wisdom). Cultivating and developing all three are essential, and each supports the other along the path of realization and awakening.
In this Practice Group, we will focus on sīla, the cornerstone upon which the entire Noble Eightfold Path is built. The Buddha offered us guidelines, or precepts, to help us live our lives with greater happiness. A life of happiness, wisdom and compassion begin with a commitment to ethical living. The “Five Precepts” invite us to live a life of non-harming and loving-kindness through the deep investigation of our actions, speech and thoughts.
This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators. Each session will include meditation practice, teachings and the exploration and discussion of how to practice the precepts in daily life. Mindful homework between sessions is essential to this group. Everyone is welcome.
