This day of retreat is an opportunity for people ages 18 to 35 to gather and practice Insight Meditation (vipassana) in a supportive community setting. We will explore the teaching of equanimity or upekkha, which is one of the heavenly abodes. Our inherent human nature compels us to covet, lean into, and grab pleasant experiences, things, people, places, feelings, and states of mind. Conversely, when we encounter the opposite in the form of unpleasant or painful experiences, things, people, places, feelings, and states of mind, we tend to push them away, lost and caught up in resistance.
What would it be like if we could be equally near all things? Being with the ten thousand joys and ten thousand sorrows that are available to us in this moment fully. Gazing upon our lives with a steadfast, calm equanimity, simply observing what is happening. This is the practice of equanimity. And we can all aspire to be in its grace.
This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators. Our day together will include instructions on Insight Meditation and metta practice and will unfold in silent sitting and walking meditation, guidance and Q&A sessions. There will be time after the retreat ends for participants to gather informally for refreshments and discussion.
